General Information
Climate:
- October in Saskatoon is autumn and can be sunny or cloudy/rainy. The average
daytime temperature is 0 to 10 degrees Celsius. Be prepared for rare snowfall
in October.
Currency:
- The currency in Canada is the Canadian dollar. Please check your
local bank or a currency exchange rate website for the right exchange rates.
Emergencies:
- In case of emergency dial 911. You don’t need to pay for the
call.
Food:
Traditionally, Canadian food relies on fish, meat, poultry, potatoes, fruits
and vegetables.
- Some meals and entertainment are included with the registration
fee.
- People with special dietary needs should contact the office to make
arrangements.
Language:
- English is the official Symposium language
Special Requests:
- Accommodation available for persons with sensory impairments as
well as persons with physical challenges or mobility limitations.
Students:
- To qualify for the special student rate, you must send (by
mail, fax, e-mail) a proof of student status (e.g. photocopy of a student
card and dated letter from your supervisor).
Tours:
- Sightseeing will be offered for a fee.
Transportation:
- There is no shuttle service from the Saskatoon airport to downtown
hotels. A taxi ride to the host hotel will cost approximately $25.00 Cdn.
Visa/Passport:
- A valid passport or internationally recognized travel document is required
to enter Canada. For some countries, visa processing may take time,
so it is advisable to apply for a Canadian visa well in advance.
This office will issue an Invitation Letter to international participants
who wish to attend this conference and require a visa for entry to Canada
only after receiving Cdn$ 100.00 fee for processing and mailing. Money
orders and cheques are payable to the University of Saskatchewan.
